How Do Solar Panels Work?

Do solar panels work?.  Solar panels are flat and will work best if they are positioned at a 90 degree angle from the suns energy. Commonly used for creating solar panels are photovoltaic panels, these photovoltaic panels absorb their energy from the suns rays through lots of smaller cells on the surface of the panels, just the way a plant would absorb its energy from the sun.

For another fantastic article on how solar panels Work take a look at How Solar Panels Work?

Lets look at another way of decscribing how a solar panel works, when the rays from the sun hit these smaller solar cells on the photovoltaic panel, when this has happened the energy is then transferred to a silicon semiconductor these photons are then turned into electricity, and then again passed onto connecting  wires and lastly entering a power generation system.

Solar panels that are made from silicon employ solar thermal energy to produce electricity.  These Silicon atoms are then used to help create the plates of solar panels. A more technical reason for creating silicon solar panels is by combining other elements with silicon that have positive or negative charges I hope this helped you gain some more understanding about the technical side of silicon panels.

{Silicon solar panels can range from being used to heat water as solar hot water panels to those that are used for storing solar energy}. The uses of silicon panels are very close to photovoltaic panels which are both commonly used in the professional solar power industry.

Solar panels and humanity?

Currently solar panels are used for many things, such as transportation signaling i.e. harbours for ships, navigation buoys. We even use solar panels on tall buildings and structures as aircraft warning lights. Solar panels can be used also to provide power enviromental also situation monitoring equipment and corrosion protection.

The residential sector is also using solar panels, they are placed on flat surfaces such as roof tops and terraces to create solar energy, such as hot water, solar lights to light pathways especially in our gardens and flag-posts. The hospitality industry, schools, community halls and hospitals, especially in remote areas are also taking advantage of solar energy. Telephones, televisions and videos can also run of solar energy. There is also a wide range of refrigeration systems such as vaccine refrigeration etc. There are power plants in open areas which are used to power houses and can also be used as a depot to recharge batteries.

PV systems are also used in remote areas to pump water. Solar water systems are used to float at sea or even for submersible use.

Desalination plants can on a larger scale use pv panels. Large electrical loads can be powered by PV modules which helps produce more battery storage.

How  solar panels work in conjunction with diesel engines?

PV panels can be configured even smaller with diesel generators that provide the back power keeping the fuel and maintenance costs down.

Some of us use solar powered items everyday around the home and personal items such as watches and calculators, usually these items don’t even have an off switch, where there is light there is energy .
