Who Should Make Their Own Solar Panels?

Not only is solar energy becoming one of the primary ways to save money in an economic crunch, but it also will help you cut costs. And, there is a difference. But, you have to ask yourself “who” exactly is a good fit for making their own solar panels?

After all, more and more people are looking to do-it-yourself DIY models for practically everything if it will save them a buck. But, let’s be honest. “Making” anything takes time and effort. Some people just are not cut out for it. For others, the desire to create things is their fulfillment in life. It’s what they would like to do every day.

So, where does making your own solar panels fit in?

I asked my good friend Bryon Walker this question as he is the author of what appears to be the #1 selling do-it-yourself solar panel kit in the country. Here’s what he told me.

1. You have to have the desire – There are many benefits to solar energy, but there are many personal rewards for building your own. One of the two most important are that you feel you have made a true contribution to the environment and also to your family for the cost savings you will enjoy. The second is that you will be able to encourage others to do the same. If you are a person that “desires” to have a true impact as well as encouraging others, you are a perfect candidate for this DIY solar kit.

2. You have to have the process – Building anything to add to a home can be complex task if you’re not used to doing it. Byron has assembled a process that is so easy, virtually anyone with the ability to follow instructions can do it.

3. You must have support – No matter how easy a process might be, you need to have someone to go to, some resource to contact in order to have questions answered. Byron has assembled these resources for you too.

Now, I’m not a technical person. And, I hate working on my house as much as a cat enjoys being thrown in a lake full of snow melted water! So, is it likely to see me up on a roof assembling a solar panel? Heck no! It’s just not for me.

But, my brother is going to get a very interesting Christmas present this year. I’m going to get him Byron’s solar kit because my brother is just starting to take an interest in doing things like this. So, I’ll buy it for him and then let him use my house for his first creation!

I’ll bet you can think of someone in your family that would love this package as a present. And, if you’re not the kind of person to actually do the assembly of the solar panels, maybe you could offer your house as the test model too.
